Orphan Acres Update

I just got some recent pictures taken at Orphan Acres by a very good friend, Carla Bowers, who spent 2 days there with her partner Jim Grass to help out on the farm. Carla and Jim spent 5 weeks last summer traveling and helping out where they could with various horse rescues and people in need. And, they aren’t even “horse” people – they just have extremely good hearts and know when there is work to be done. Here’s a short note from Carla about working with Brent at Orphan Acres:

Grassman [Jim Grass] and I were at Orphan Acres volunteering 2 full days at the end of Aug 09 on our way back to CA from our trip up to Banff/Jasper/Glacier. Grassman was doing building/repairing projects & I was mucking stalls, cleaning/refilling water troughs, feeding twice/day, organizing tack/grooming equipment/supplies, etc. There was plenty to do as there’s about 80 horses to care for. Brent is a true horse whisperer shown by the way all the horses respond to him & he has an incredible amount of knowledge to share about all things related to horses, young & old. It was truly a pleasure to meet him & help out at the farm.

Since returning from her trip, she has spent lots of time learning about issues related to horse abandonment and the plight of our wild ones. I welcome Carla’s passion and  enthusiasm in helping out our equine friends. And, by the way, Orphan Acres new web site and offering a new book highlighting some of Brent’s beautiful horses were Carla’s brainchild – she spent tons of time and energy on both and I think she did a fantastic job. Please visit and enjoy and pick up  Tony Stromberg’s book “The Forgotten Horses” - it will make a great Christmas present for horse lovers!
